The Everyone Gym Workout Journal

THE EVERYONE GYM WORKOUT JOURNAL

Hi, I'm Thane Taylor. Back in 2016 I made a realization that I wasn't content with living a sedentary lifestyle. I was always somewhat active but I would start a 30, 60, or 90 day workout program, notice it wasn't sustainable, then find myself in limbo with little to no lasting change in mood, skill level,  or body composition.

I. Needed. A. Change.

With a little bit of digging, I found one of the most impressive feats of consistency in modern sport and created a lifestyle around it. Cal Ripken Jr.'s 2,632 consecutive games played streak inspired me to completely change the framework of how I approached fitness. I invited all of my friends to participate. I challenged each of them to push their limits and expand their comfort zones to become the best versions of themselves.

The goal was not to workout every single day for 2,632 days; the goal was to stay active in a workout program for that long. If you decide this particular challenge is not for you (I understand), there are still several worthwhile practices you SHOULD implement in your daily life. I put together a GUIDED WORKOUT JOURNAL to help YOU implement these practices for yourself! Here are a few areas of emphasis that have helped me stay consistent so far:

Goal focused, program oriented, document the process, and KNOW YOUR WHY!

GOAL FOCUSED:

I believe losing weight or gaining muscle are NOT GOALS, they are byproducts of striving for something bigger.  What are you ultimately trying to achieve? There are always underlying reasons WHY you are aiming to hit these otherwise arbitrary milestones...Are you trying to get healthy for your family, gain self-confidence, become self-sufficient, experience more out of life?

"I never want my life experiences to be limited by my physical ability.”

The above quote is an example of an “Ultimate Goal” that I personally use; I can continuously strive for this no matter what!  Find your own “Ultimate Goal” and keep that at the forefront of your workout journey. Take time to determine whether or not your daily actions lead you closer to your goal.

Program oriented workouts (progressive improvements throughout):

Most programs work! There are plenty of options, find one that focuses on progressive improvement over time. You do not want to get stuck working out by intuition. You may stay active but it will rarely result in consistent growth. Feel free to reassess how the program is working for you and pivot when necessary. The program will work as well as you allow it to work. The absolute  most important factor is to find a program that you ENJOY!

"Pick a program and give it an honest effort, adjust as needed, keep on going!”

Document the process:

I document everything through social media channels as a way of staying accountable and to keep track of things. Physical journaling is an extraordinary tool to use as well. At some point, you’ll want to look back at what you did to draw insight from it. Write it down!
